About us

The National Council of the United States, Society of St. Vincent de Paul was established to organize and represent local SVDP Conferences and Councils across the country. Today, with nearly 90,000 members, SVDP USA provides resources, training, and spiritual development for Vincentians throughout 4,385 local Conferences
and 500 Councils.

“May our presence and care to those most in need reflect the gentleness, esteem and dignity we see reflected in the life and work of Jesus.”
– St Vincent de Paul

Vincentians are men and women of every age, every race, every income level, who share our blessings of time,
talent, and treasure with neighbors in need. No work of charity is foreign to the Society. From our thrift stores
and food pantries, to disaster recovery and prison reentry, to advocacy and systemic change, we serve our
communities however they need it most. Like the Good Samaritan, we’re ready to help anyone regardless of
religion, age, or background.

Our Saint Matthias Conference began in 1999 to reach out into the community of Franklin Township, NJ . In the past year we have interviewed over 173 clients in person, by phone and in ZOOM sessions resulting in financial assistance of more than $100,000 in assistance, typically by helping them to secure or keep housing, and to keep their utilities on. We also have advised them on other sources of help that are available to the public. Our ability to assist was all made possible by the support of generous benefactors.

Why we do what we do

“We have to state, without mincing words, that there is an inseparable bond between our faith and the poor. May we never abandon them.”

Pope Francis

“I am not sure exactly what heaven will be like, but I do know that when we die and it comes time for God to judge us, he will not ask, ‘How many good things have you done in your life?’, rather he will ask, ‘How much love did you put into what you did?'”

St Teresa of Calcutta

“Ultimately a great nation is a compassionate nation. No individual or nation can be great if it does not have a concern for ‘the least of these.’”

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
